It’s a new year, you’re all fired up with your resolutions and your shiny new gym membership so you can work better, look better, and be a better you. Right? If only you weren’t so exhausted from your job, your holidays, or even your vacation, you could do it all.

Before you add more to your already overly-full paleo plate, your fatigue may signal a need to protect your beloved adrenal glands, which regulate blood sugar, burn fat and protein, help you regulate blood pressure, and determine how you react to stress. If you’ve been feeling tired, dizzy, achy, losing weight or body hair, or have low blood pressure, you may have reached the point of what’s called adrenal fatigue. Blood tests can determine whether you have reached that point or not, but our systems become taxed from air pollutants, processed foods, artificial light, trauma, insomnia, and the stress of daily life. It may be time for a reset, and a visit to Bulletproof Labs for some recovery time.

Here are five ways to rejuvenate yourself and feel less stressed:

#1 . Call out your stressors: Awareness is the first step. If you’ve not been sleeping enough, take a nap, or set a bedtime to get more rest. If you’re spending too much time with artificial light, turn down the lights at night, grab a pair of True Dark glasses, and wear an eye mask to bed to assist in melatonin production for more restful sleep.

#2 . Just float: A sensory deprivation tank puts your brain into a meditative theta-wave state, which provides you with relaxation, and resets your neurotransmitters. You can find a local place with a sensory deprivation float tank, or our Virtual Float Tank is an opportunity to quiet your mind, without even having to get wet. Working on mindfulness and meditation practices in general will also assist you in staying present, breathing deeply, and enjoying each moment.

#3 . Eliminate distractions: If you want to stay focused and reduce physical reaction to interruption, stop the beeps and dings of your notifications. Even if you think you can ignore them, it’s hard to know which of these distractions are urgent, may be spam, or do not require immediate attention. Stop over-stressing yourself and your brain by feeling like everything is an emergency. Our friend Jim Kwik starts his day without digital interruption and with some of these helpful habits. Or, you can schedule a daily hour to put away your technology and weave in some restful activities or fulfilling reading.

#4 . Turn on the red light: The REDcharger exposes you to red (630 nm), and infrared (880 nm) LED light. By combining these two frequencies together, studies have shown the REDcharger to help your muscles recover, and you’ll feel better even after a few minutes of exposure.

#5 . Start the day with salt: Salt has been given a bad rap in the past, but it may be a lack of salt that overtaxes our system. When you first wake up, your body sends a signal to your adrenal glands to increase your blood pressure so you can get up and get moving. The adrenals begin to look for more sodium, to balance your potassium levels. To ease up on cortisol production, which controls your stress levels, take a 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of pink Himalayan salt in a glass of water for balanced energy throughout the day.

To get started exploring your baseline and how you can upgrade your life – come into Bulletproof Labs for a visit. We can help you recover from adrenal fatigue and regain your vitality.
